Hi, I’m Lena!

A little bit about me: I’m a military spouse with a step daughter, daughter and son. Dinner table chats at our house vary from what's happening in preschool to middle school life, and all of the varying degrees between. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, being outdoors, reading and painting.

Before moving to private practice work, I was a school counselor for 7 years, primarily working with high school students. Prior to counseling, I was an elementary teacher. My hope is that my experience as a teacher, school counselor and parent of a blended family will bring peace, hope and growth within yours. I’m very excited to serve you and your family!

Lena Kilgore is an Associate Licensed Counselor working with children, teens, and young adults throughout Alabama, practicing under the supervision of Daniel Birdsong, LPC-S. She graduated with a Master’s of Education in School Counseling from the University of Montevallo. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Alabama in Elementary Education. She is also an NBCC Nationally Board Certified Counselor (NCC)

Hopeful Beginnings

One summer day in my backyard, my daughter was curious about the different stages of dandelions, and I told her they are seen as weeds to some, but beautiful to others. Some live in a season of bright yellow, while others live in a season of waiting. Once the waiting season is over, we blow a wish into the white flower – sending hope and love into the world. With this wish, Dandelion House Counseling came to be.

Let’s Get Connected

Thank you for choosing Dandelion House Counseling. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or thoughts you have. I look forward to getting to know you!

Our Person-Centered Approach

During our first session, we will get to know each other! I’d love to discover what you enjoy, what brings you to counseling and what your hopes and goals are for choosing Dandelion House Counseling. I welcome you to ask any questions about the space and techniques you may be interested in.

No matter what challenges you are facing (post-high school plans, anxiety, self-esteem, ADHD, etc.), I utilize an integrated, person-centered approach to therapy to meet you where you are. We will discuss your thoughts, experiences and emotions with the hope of discovering your past, present and future self. This may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), where we focus on addressing and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors.

Along with talk therapy, I integrate a variety of other creative mediums including:
